Samsun - Atatürk House
Samsun Atatürk House was organized by Samsun Municipality in Mıntıka Palas and opened to visitors. It is as follows: When Atatürk arrived in Samsun on the morning of 19 May 1919 as the Ninth Army Continental Inspector with a staff of 18 people and stepped ashore from the Bandırma Ferry, he was greeted with enthusiastic demonstrations and was hosted at the Mıntıka Palas, the best building in the city. It was a two-story stone building. It was built as a hotel in 1902 by a wealthy person named Abacıoğlu. As soon as we heard that Atatürk was coming to Samsun, the hotel, which was closed in those days, was opened by the order of the Governor, and it was furnished by moving the bed and chairs from the military hospital. Atatürk stayed in this building for a week, where he first opened the National Struggle he started in Anatolia in this building.
After the proclamation of the Republic, Atatürk came to Samsun for the second time with his wife Latife Hanım on 20 September 1924, this time as a guest at the house of Şahinzade Remzi Bey from Samsun. When he first came to Samsun that day, the old Mıntıka Palas, where he stayed, was presented to him by the Municipality, and Atatürk was very touched by this. After his departure from Samsun, the Municipality built the building and preserved it as Atatürk House. Atatürk, who came to Samsun for the third time on September 16, 1928, during the letter reform days, stayed in his own house for two nights and three days, and on November 28, 1930, which was his fourth arrival, four nights and five days.
The upper floor rooms of Samsun Atatürk House were arranged as Atatürk's bedroom, study room and meeting room. Gazi library, which was opened in 1930 on the lower floor, served until 1972, then the library was moved from here.
Atatürk House, organized by Samsun Municipality, is the first page and even the preface of our National Struggle history. In this respect, it has great historical value.
