Diyarbakır, Gazi (Semanoglu) Mansion

Diyarbakır Ataturk Mansion, 2.5 km from Diyarbakır city walls. it is in the south.

After the Dardanelles War, at the end of February 1916, Atatürk was assigned to the Eastern Front as the 16th Corps Commander, and came to Diyarbakır, the Corps Headquarters, on 14 March 1916. Semanoğlu Mansion outside Diyarbakır walls was given to Atatürk. Atatürk stayed in this mansion until 27 March 1917. Atatürk, who came back to Diyarbakır as the Commander of the 2nd Army in March 1917, stayed this time in the Pamuk Mansion outside the Mardin Gate.

Diyarbakir Municipality chose Ataturk as their honorary fellow countryman with a land it took on April 5, 1926, and gave him the Semanoglu Mansion, where he stayed when he first came to Diyarbakır. The mansion was known as Atatürk Mansion after that day.

Diyarbakir Ataturk Mansion is one of the examples of Diyarbakir houses made of black and white cut stones with wide iwans. The water pouring into the pool from the marble fountain on the wall of the iwan gives the mansion coolness. The small door to the right of the entrance opens to the kitchen and the door to the left opens to the tea house. Upstairs are the study and bedrooms.

After Atatürk's death, Atatürk Mansion was restored under the protection of Diyarbakır municipality and opened to visitors.
