Rize - Atatürk Museum

Rize - Atatürk Museum was organized and opened to visitors in 1984 in the historical house of Osman Mataracı.

Atatürk went on a trip for several months known as "Atatürk's Autumn Trip" in September 1924, during which he visited the Black Sea provinces. In these days of travel, Atatürk, accompanied by his wife Latife Hanım and several deputies, came to Rize from Trabzon on September 17, 1924 on the Hamidiye Ferry, and Rize was greeted with enthusiastic demonstrations. Atatürk, who spent that night at Mataracı Mehmet Bey's house in Rize, made some visits to the city the next day, made investigations, and departed for Giresun by the same ferry at 16.30.

The house in Rize, where Atatürk was a guest for one night, later passed from its owner Mehmet Mataracı to his nephew Osman Mataracı. Due to Atatürk's 100th death anniversary, Osman Mataracı donated his house to Rize Special Administration to be built as Atatürk Museum. The house, which was transferred to the Ministry of Culture in 1984, was repaired and organized as the Atatürk Museum and opened to visitors. A part of the house is the Cultural Center.

The house, which has 3 floors with its roof, was built in 1902 by the Mataracı family. According to today's arrangement, the upper floor of the house is the Atatürk Museum. Atatürk's trips to Rize, the belongings he used, photographs of Atatürk, photographs of the notables of the Kuva-yı Milliye in Rize during the National Struggle are exhibited in this section. The lower part of the museum is divided into administration rooms and the Cultural Center.
