Karşıyaka - Latife Hanım Memorial House

On January 04, 1923, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha announced that he would marry Latife Hanım at a meeting held at the Azerbaijan Embassy. Gazi announced this intention to his mother, who wanted him to marry very much. This trip of Ms. Zübeyde, recommended by doctors to go to Izmir for her poor health, also gave her the opportunity to see the bride-to-be.

To Zübeyde Hanım, who came to Karşıyaka on 18 December 1922; He was accompanied by Chief Adjutant Salih Bozok, adopted son of Fatma and adopted son of Gazi, Abdurrahim (Tuncak) Bey. Zübeyde Hanım brought along a very beautiful horse named Sakarya, which belonged to Gazi, as an engagement gift to Latife Hanım.

The people of Karşıyaka welcomed Zübeyde Hanım well at the station and showed great sympathy. He also accepted the people of Izmir who came to visit him in his wagon and met Latife Hanım on the train. Since she was uncomfortable with her knees, she was placed on a wicker chair and moved to the mansion belonging to Latife Hanım's family nearby.

Captain Dr. Asım (Arar) Bey and Dr. Behçet (Uz) took great care of Gazi's mother, Zübeyde Hanım. Unfortunately, Zübeyde Hanım died on 14 January 1923 in this mansion belonging to these Uşakizades, despite the careful care of the doctors and Latife Hanım.

This mansion, named “Latife Hanım Memorial House”, is a three-storey building, including the basement, built by the Uşakizade family as a summer residence. Zübeyde Hanım left the horse named Sakarya, which she brought to İzmir, in this mansion. Gazi, the day after his marriage with Latife Hanım, first visited his mother's grave, and then they rode together in the garden of this mansion. That evening, Gazi and Latife Hanım stayed in a building that is an extension of the mansion.

The Uşakizade family first rented this mansion for classroom purposes and then sold it and disposed of it. Karsiyaka Municipality bought the mansion in 2005 and did the necessary work together with the Izmir Governor's Office to preserve the historical building in accordance with its original form. In the mansion where Zübeyde Hanım, mother of the great leader Atatürk, died after living for 28 days, the room where Zübeyde Hanım passed away was arranged as a memorial room. In this room and other rooms, some belongings of Latife Hanım and Atatürk, which were donated by the heirs of the mansion, are still exhibited. Inside the mansion, Prof. Dr. There are also statues of Atatürk, Latife Hanım and Zübeyde Hanım made of wax by Yılmaz Büyükerşen. There are exhibition areas and a cafeteria in the garden of the mansion with a total area of 2958 m2. As a result of the restoration completed on July 9, 2008,
