MEHMET CEVAT ABBAS GÜRER (1324-P 257)

He was born in 1887 in the city of Nis, which is still in Yugoslavia (today Serbia). He is the son of Şerif Abbas Bey. He entered the Military Academy on 13 December 1905. He graduated with the rank of Infantry Lieutenant on September 1, 1908. The 3rd Army was placed under his command. While he was a student at the Manastır Military Academy, he joined the Committee of Union and Progress. He served in the 19th Regiment in Presova, Komanova, Koçana and Köprülü. In December 1910, he was appointed to Thessaloniki Reserve Officer Candidates Training. In March 1911, he was assigned to follow the bandits within the borders of Thessaloniki with the Tracking Battalion. At the end of the year, he was appointed to the 37th Regimental Adjutant. He was promoted to the rank of first lieutenant on 19 October 1912 and was appointed to the Istanbul Central Command as a police officer on 3 February 1913.

He served as a company commander in the Reserve Officer Training Center opened during the First World War campaign. It was given to the Anafartalar Group Staff on April 16, 1915. He became a captain on 13 December 1916. He was appointed as the aide of the 16th Corps Commander Mustafa Kemal Pasha. During the war, he was in the entourage of Mustafa Kemal Pasha as an aide. After the armistice, he came to Istanbul on 13 November 1918 with Mustafa Kemal Pasha, who was given the command of the Ministry of War upon the abolition of the Yıldırım Army Group. He went to Anatolia on 19 May 1919 as an aide to Mustafa Kemal Pasha, who was appointed to the 9th Army Inspectorate on 30 April 1919. Upon the resignation of the pasha from military service in Erzurum on 8 July 1919, he was appointed to the command of the Erzurum Fortified Area Command. Atatürk at the Sivas Congress

He joined the Assembly as a Bolu Deputy in the elections held on January 8, 1920 for the last term of the Istanbul Deputies Assembly. Upon the dissolution of the Assembly, he came to Ankara and was presented to the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on July 5, 1920 as a Bolu Deputy. On 17 July, he was deemed to be on leave and left the Assembly as he was in charge of suppressing the uprising in Yozgat and its surroundings. He maintained order in the region with the Cavalry Detachment he established. He was sent to Bulgaria on a special mission on 20 October 1920. Due to his success in his duty, he served as the representative of the Ankara Government in Sofia until the end of 1921. He rejoined the Assembly on February 4, 1922. He worked in the National Defense and Foreign Affairs Committees in the Parliament.

He was re-elected as a deputy in the Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth terms and continued his legislative duty until 1939. Meanwhile, he was promoted to Major on September 1, 1923, and retired from the army on February 27, 1927, upon his request. He died on July 4, 1943 in Yalova.
