Konya Ataturk Monument

After the statue of our father, the founder of our Republic, which was placed in Gülhane Park in Istanbul Sarayburnu for the first time, the second was made in Konya.

The late Architect Muzaffer Bey planned to prepare the monumental composition, which symbolizes Konya as an agricultural country, with oxcart, wheat, spike sheaves and a few villagers, and have it built on the station road. He submits his plan to the official authorities of the transfer. Plan and offer are appreciated. The construction of the elder brother immediately begins. A lot of construction progresses. However, when the first world war broke out, the construction was stopped for some material and moral reasons. It is protected by covering it with thick hair.

Year 1924 City Council decides to complete the unfinished monument and to erect a statue of Atatürk on it. The statue was commissioned by Heinrich Krippel.

An agreement is made for 16 thousand liras. The construction of 17 meters monument and 3 meters sculpture is accelerated. On Friday, October 29, 1926, it is prepared for the opening with a white atlas and a flag, and thus the opening is made with a great ceremony.

Monument; It consists of a 6.50m high marble pedestal and a 2.80m high bronze Atatürk figure.

Atatürk is depicted standing in his field marshal's uniform, holding the hilt of his sword with his left hand, and touching a sheaf of wheat ears rising from his feet with his right hand, slightly extended.

The monument has no inscription. Atatürk is seen in this monument as a commander.
