Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha and Latife Hanım Go on a Western Anatolia Tour

Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha and Latife Hanım went on a tour of Western Anatolia with a delegation on February 4, 1923. Latife Hanım's middle brother Ömer Bey also attended the trip. [one]

The newspaper İkdam, dated February 5, 1923, described the arrival of Gazi in Akhisar Kapaklı Village as follows:

His Excellency Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha and his wife Latife Hanım and the delegation with her departed from Izmir at half past three last night. In the morning, they had a short conversation with the people in Kapaklı, the victims were slaughtered and the schools were present at the welcoming ceremony.

His Excellency Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha, who arrived at Çiftlik at eleven o'clock, inspected the military detachments, and the Turkish soldier carried out a great maneuver in the presence of the Commander-in-Chief, which lasted for three hours. The very regular march of the soldier and his agile movements won the appreciation of Gazi.

Pasha visited the Farm Hospital with his respected wife, Latife Hanım, and won the hearts of the patients. Mrs. Latife offered cigarettes to the patients, and the Jews of the Farm presented two white doves to this newly married couple, in addition to their wishes of happiness. The Jews of the village gave a banquet in honor of the Corps, and Gazi replied to the speech of a Jew as follows: “As long as these beautiful feelings of loyalty of the Jews continue, we will have sincere places in our hearts.” [2]

According to the news of Anadolu Agency dated February 4, 1923, Gazi was received in Akhisar as follows:

His Highness Commander-in-Chief, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha, whose entourage (with the accompanying delegation) departed from Izmir at half past three last night, today (arrived) in Akhisar at half past ten in the afternoon. It was received in a bright and ostentatious manner by all the townspeople, men, women, young people, old people, without exception, and the representatives of the people from the surrounding villages and towns.
Afterwards, Müftü Efendi welcomed His Excellency Pasha on behalf of all Akhisar residents and prayed for the success of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Government. [3]
At half past seven in the evening, a banquet was held (dinner was given) by the Municipality in the honor of His Excellency the Chief Commander Pasha in Akhisar Turkish Hearth. The intellectuals (intellectuals) of the town and the erkan-ı rüesay-ı property and military (military and civil administrative leaders) were present at the banquet. At the end of the feast, the Head of the Turkish Hearths, Doctor Şemsettin Bey, made a speech addressed to His Excellency Pasha (they said). [4]

Akhisarlı İsmail Kemal Tulay, who lived in those days, recounts his memories as follows:

It was evening. The table in the Turkish Hearth was ready. I was personally serving Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha at this table. I was right behind Gazi. I was very happy.
Towards the end of the meal, the aide put a telegram in front of Gazi. As Gazi was reading the telegram, his blue eyes suddenly clouded; her joy was gone. He put the telegram in front of Kazım Pasha. Apparently there was no good news in the telegram.
Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha did not touch the dessert. His wife, Latife, sitting next to him:

“Pasha, why don't you eat? Can you place one for me?" said.

Then Gazi ate a dessert. …It was understood that the telegram that upset Gazi came from Lausanne. [5]

Leman Aytun, a retired teacher who saw Gazi in Akhisar, also said:

I was a teacher in a girls' school. There was also a boys' school in Akhisar. We lined up boys and girls on both sides of the road, facing each other. …Gazi stroked the child's head while receiving the flower. He looked at the children hopefully.
He walked among the people with Latife Hanım. To men:

- "How are you guys?" Also to the ladies:

- "How are you?" said.

As a teacher, our excitement was endless. Turning to us:

- “How are you, teacher ladies?” I was right in front of Gazi Pasha when he said. To see her better, I tore my veil, tearing through the darkness with a heartfelt cry:

- I shouted, "Thank you, Pasha."[6]

Gazi left Akhisar on 06 February.
